Antelope Gym will play host to all but one match for the Lopes this year and it has paid off. GCU is averaging over 1,100 fans per game, a mark that is only bested by four other programs.
The historically dominant men’s volleyball programs top the attendance chart but it is GCU that is fighting for the best atmosphere. Antelope Gym sits 1,500 fans and with GCU’s average over 1,100 the gym becomes loud. In 2018 the Lopes ranked fifth in total attendance and led the country in attendance capacity at 73%.
The games feature crazy students with constant chants and heckling, an on-site DJ that plays walk-up music which keeps the crowd engaged and opposing teams uncomfortable. The GCU Thundering Heard Pep Band is also a constant in addition to the GCU Cheerleaders. Every home game is an event to behold.
“Our fan support is like no other across the country. It took some getting used to for our own guys because of how loud our gym is!” GCU head coach, Matt Werle after the 2018 home opener.
Antelope Gymnasium is a volleyball gym through and through.
